We’re feelin’ the good vibes today, how about you?
This new game just launched today on Kickstarter and stars cheerful, digital pixies called Melbits. The adorable Melbits characters live inside connected devices to spread good vibes across the internet. (We could all certainly use that in today’s news climate now more than ever!)
What’s a Melbit, you may ask? Think: Tamagotchi meets Pokémon with an augmented-reality (AR) twist, that’s Melbits Pod. Kids can evolve, hatch, and take care of precious virtual kawaii creatures using the toy’s sensor-filled, egg-shaped device and a companion online game.
The only way to give new Melbits pals some TLC is by incubating them using real-world surroundings and sensors that measure temperature, light, and motion. To activate each incubation, kids need to complete a timed mission with the toy — IRL and away from the screen — before a new virtual character and adventure are unlocked. Each unlocked incubation unveils new Melbits, props, and skills. Kids can also add customization, take the pets on AR walks, trade them, participate in fun challenges, and even amass some enemies online to unlock a brand-new, internet fantasy world.
Melbits POD can be connected to mobile devices via Bluetooth using a free app that is available on both iOS and Android phones and tablets.
