This August, LeapFrog will introduce the LeapBand, a wearable activity tracker designed for kids ages 4 to 7 that encourages active play and healthy habits through interaction with a personalized virtual pet.
The LeapBand activity tracker gets kids moving and having fun with 50 different activities and challenges, tracking kids’ physical moves so the more active a kid is, the more points they earn with their virtual pets. As kids earn points through active play, they can unlock additional games, challenges, levels of play, and virtual rewards for their on-screen pet.
LeapBand has an aspirational fit-band style that is designed with kids in mind, and high-tech features including a built-in accelerometer, a high-resolution color screen, a rechargeable battery, and a water-resistant design.
The LeapBand activity tracker comes with eight different customizable pets from LeapFrog’s Pet Pals franchise—a cat, a dog, a dragon, a monkey, a panda, a penguin, a robot, and a unicorn—that can be customized by color and name. With their very own virtual pet, kids can play 10 preloaded activities and challenges with access to 40 additional free challenges. As they earn points, kids can unlock each of the additional pets and earn virtual toys for each one as they stay engaged and continue to learn with mini-games such as Pet Boogie, Pet Chef, and Pet Salon.
The LeapBand activity tracker allows kids to complete a variety of activities, including “walk like a crab,” “spin like a helicopter,” and “pop like popcorn,” no matter where they are. The activity challenges keep kids active by tapping into their own individual movements without any additional equipment required.
In addition to the active play on LeapBand, the fun is extended to include a free downloadable companion app called Petathlon. In the Petathlon app, kids can compete as their virtual pet in six mini-games including archery, surfing, and bobsledding to win extras such as new medals and tracksuits for their virtual pets. The app is available for download to a LeapPad Ultra or an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.
The LeapBand also features parental controls, including School Time, Night Time, and Quiet Time modes. Parents can set their kid’s device to School Time or Night Time modes via LeapFrog Connect. Quiet Time mode can be set directly on the LeapBand to lock game and pet play. In all three modes, LeapBand continues to track the child’s activity points and displays an analog watch.
The LeapBand activity tracker will be available in green, pink, and blue nationwide online and at major retail locations beginning this August. Additional activities and challenges are free and available for download via LeapFrog Connect for LeapBand.
