Boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats…

And that my friends, is the extent of my beatboxing skills.

Incredibox, from So Far So Good, is a music-making app that lets kids create a fun mix by managing a group of beatboxers. With five different sound sets for kids to explore including Little Miss, Sunrise, The Love, Brazil, and Alive, the music-mixing possibilities are endless.

To start a mix, music aficionados can drag and drop different icons onto members of the beatboxing team. In some musical variations, these icons include wacky hats, sunglasses, and other items that dress the characters as they are used. As kids drag and drop, the characters will start to sport funky outfits and make unique sounds in rhythm with their beatbox mates. The only instruments at play in this game are the characters’ mouths, since beatboxing is a solely based on vocal percussion.

Icon by icon, kids can explore different combos, unlock animated bonuses, and fine tune their mix until they make a beat that speaks to their soul. Along the way, they can easily swap out new sounds, mute sounds currently implemented in their set, and switch to a an alternate music set with ease. Once they’ve designed their own mix, they can record it and share it with other Incredibox artists. Here, contributors can listen and vote their favorite tracks all the way to the Top 50 chart.

Incredibox is unique in the sense that it lets kids explore a less conventional form of music. Players can discover new and exciting ways to mix sounds, and they can enjoy a sound experience that lets allows them to contribute in an interactive way. And for those times when you just want to listen to some pre-existing tracks, Automatic Mode plays unique mixes at random so kids can sit back and take in the tunes.

Incredibox is available for download on the App Store and Google Play.
