iDeaPLAYNowadays, it seems like every kid needs an educational tablet, so the question is, “Which one is the best fit?” While that is no easy question to answer, if working at The Toy Insider has taught me anything, it’s that the baseline expectation of any tablet is allowing for safe play and providing plenty of entertaining content. Keeping that in mind, the iDeaPLAY from iDeaUSA meets both of these criteria. It has two modes, Manage and Play, and the former allows parents to regulate exactly what their young ones have access to, while the latter comes with lots of apps and offers the option of downloading even more of them.

As for the content itself, the iDeaPLAY includes fun and stimulating apps provided through the Famigo interface. Some of them help little brains develop math and reading skills: Math Bugaboo, for example, introduces scurrying bugs that kids count by touching the responsive 7-inch screen. The game alternates rounds in which the point isn’t counting, but squishing the bugs. There is also a Shrek Forever After read-along storybook, as well as games that are pleasant diversions without overt educational benefit. For example, Riptide GP, by Vector Unit, puts kids behind the controls of a fast-moving hydro jet that they steer by moving the tablet around.

Boasting compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act, intended to ensure the safety and privacy of children ages 13 and younger, iDeaPLAY offers parents peace of mind to go with lots of educational and entertainment options.
