HTTYD02_TRU-1024x768_1Dragon riders, rejoice! Kids can now bring the Viking island of Berk everywhere they go with How to Train Your Dragon 2 (The Official Storybook App), from Cupcake Digital and DreamWorks Animation. The app is based on the animated film How to Train Your Dragon 2 and features a diverse amount of categories, making it well worth the purchase. The app includes the interactive story, two games, and coloring pages.

The story tells the tale of Hiccup, his pal toothless, and their fearless dragon rider friends that takes place five years after we last saw the gang. In the story, kids will get a sneak peek of what happens during the movie. It doesn’t give too much away about what happens in the theatrical adventure, but also doesn’t leave you feeling unsatisfied. The story can be narrated or more advanced youngsters can turn it off and read on their own.  Plus, the graphics and quality of the story are out of this world.

The two games in the app are fun and immerse young kids in the Dragons experience. In the first, Dragon Hunters, players help Toothless scare off Dragon Hunters to earn a high score without hitting sheep. There are different levels for this game, which are fair for kids of all ages. In Dragon Racing, kids can channel their inner dragon rider by selecting a dragon and racing it across Berk against other dragons while collecting sheep and avoiding obstacles to get the most points on the leader board. Kids can also play against their friends in the games, competing with different high scores.

The coloring pages bring scenes from the movie to life using creative coloring tools and stickers. Kids can color their favorite dragons such as Toothless and Stormfly. One of the best parts about this part of the app is that kids can color however they want—there is such a variety of colors and methods of coloring the picture. For example, with the paintbrush setting, lines really look like brush strokes!

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (The Official Storybook App) brings a lot of elements into one, all while giving kids a greater connection to the movies. The app is available on the App Store, Amazon Appstore, and Google Play for iOS, Android, Nook, Nabi, and Tabeo devices.
