Happy World Space Week!
This year’s theme puts a special focus on women in space, celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of women to science and the space sector. Vice President Kamala Harris is joining in on the fun with a new YouTube Originals special that encourages kids to “get curious” about space.
The “Get Curious with Vice President Harris,” special follows a group of kids as they meet Harris, go on a scavenger hunt with clues delivered by NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough from the International Space Station, and get exclusive access to the U.S. Naval Observatory — where the Vice President lives. Harris will discuss her role as Vice President and head of the National Space Council, which promotes STEM education and advancing our scientific understanding of the Earth and the universe, enable our national security, and create economic opportunities.
As part of the scavenger hunt, the kids will search for puzzle pieces until they have all the tools needed for a DIY telescope. The kids and viewers at home will also learn about how the Naval Observatory precisely measures the time for the country, and how to make their own simple telescope to look at the stars.
“Get Curious with Vice President Harris” will premiere on Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. ET on the NASA YouTube Channel and the YouTube Kids app. Watch the trailer below!
