The Zoo Guardians mobile game is celebrating its first anniversary with one full year of teaching kids about animal care and conservation through play. As a special offer, the free app is offering a special surprise with new downloads with the promo code “Birthday2021” for a limited time.

In the game from JumpStart Games and Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, players will work as part of the Zoo Guardians Initiative to defend the animals against climate change, deforestation, and habitat loss, all of which are threatening their survival. Kids can create a custom zoo, with the goal to adopt 67 species across eight biomes, raising them to grow up healthy before relocating them into the wild or to accredited animal care and conservation institutions to help repopulate and secure species’ survival. The game also features augmented reality and fun fact cards to teach players about animals and conservation. To date, players have adopted more than 1.2 million virtual animals and built more than 700,000 habitats.

Players can currently check out the Oceans and Coasts expansion featuring a new biome with semi-aquatic animals, such as sea turtles, Humboldt penguins, sea otters, and California sea lions. The animals can now swim and dive into new quests.

Zoo Guardians is recommended for kids ages 9 and up. Families can download the free game from the Google Play or App Store now to receive the limited-time surprise.
