Breakfast is the most important meal of the day — and you can include it in play!

LeapFrog’s Yum-2-3 Toaster is an egg-citing new way for toddlers ages 12 months and up to practice their learning skills. Along with the sunny little toaster, kids can find nine pretend play pieces: utensils, a plate, two slices of bread, a jelly jar and a lid, a fried egg, and bacon. Anyone else getting hungry?

The toaster itself is a hoot and is welcome in my kitchen any time. It plays songs about making the most of your toast and brings counting into play: For example, it will prompt kids to put two slices of bread into the toaster and add one egg to make it a sandwich. The toaster also features colorful buttons, that when pressed will talk about colors and numbers, or sing another jam.

Surprisingly, by far my 1-year-old’s favorite thing is probably something you didn’t even realize I mentioned: the jelly jar and lid. She becomes enamored with opening and closing it. I’m assuming it’s because she can do it easily and it’s something new for her. We recently went on a long flight and although I didn’t bring the whole set (it’s small enough that I could have, however), we brought along the jar to keep her happy. I placed treats inside for her to discover and it was a hit.

The jar is just a bonus. She also loves placing the bread into the toaster and watching it pop out. She doesn’t quite understand yet that she can’t just rip it out, but with time she’ll learn to use the lever. As a parent, I also love that it has two volume settings. Yes, the songs are absolute bops, but listen to anything on repeat 20 times in a row and you’ll be happy you can make it a little quieter. I also love that although small, this toy is mighty. It truly is jam-packed with educational value.

Kids are always hungry to learn, and LeapFrog’s Yum-2-3 Toaster makes sure they’re starting the day — and life — off right.
