Much like the Nick Jr. series from which it derives, the Yo Gabba Gabba! Nighttime Glow Brobee plush looks like kids stuff initially, but it’s entertaining for grown-ups, too. Based on the youngest of the colorful, friendly monsters featured in Yo Gabba Gabba!, Jazwares‘ new Brobee doll is dressed in a red sleeper so he’s ready for bed. Meanwhile, not only does he have soft, green fur that kids can take comfort nuzzling against, but his body is filled with polyester fibers that make him exceptionally hug-able. And when Brobee gets hugged, he starts singing a sweet tune while his anthropomorphic pillow flashes along.
Nighttime Glow Brobee is suitable for all ages, with older audiences likely to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into him: Not only does his sleeper have a working zipper, but it even features built-in socks for Brobee’s feet. There are also such whimsical aspects as the aforementioned light-up pillow, which happens to be every bit as soft as the plush doll holding it. As for the song Brobee sings, the tune is gentle enough to serve as a lullaby and actually seems to work in tandem with the lighting effect, which flashes brightly enough in the dark to make you want to close your eyes and listen. The lyrics mention the power dreams have to inspire and sustain us, and have a charming and timeless quality.
The whole experience is quirky, but positive, which come to think of it, is not so different from an actual episode of Yo Gabba Gabba!
