In early October, New York City’s Javits Center hosted New York Comic Con (NYCC). Panels covered sooo many topics, including comic books, comic book moviesvideo games, and comic book-based video games.

Iron Man VR

There was a lot of buzz around Iron Man VR, which is slated for a February release, for the Playstation VR platform. This particularly caught my eye because Josh Keaton is voicing Tony Stark. Keaton is one of my favorite voice actors, and he is no stranger to video games and character voice acting in games. Most recently, he voiced Shiro in the Voltron: Legendary Defender series on Netflix. I may have to pick up a Playstation VR just so I can play this game.

In the game, you play as Stark as if you are inside the Iron Man armor. You’ve got the crazy heads-up display just like Iron Man has, and you can interact with things in his world, such as his Iron Man armory. The main baddie who you are fighting is Ghost. From flying and fighting to figuring things out, you ARE Stark in this game. The game has been in development since 2016 and was only just revealed at NYCC.

Marvel’s Avengers

If we stay on an Avengers theme, the Marvel booth also had demos of the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers, from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, which is slated to be released next May. Some fans have been disappointed with the character designs for this game. However, the story sounds interesting. A tragic event occurs that causes the breakup of the Avengers — and the possible death of Captain America. Five years pass, and superheroes have been outlawed. The character A.I.M. is protecting the people of New York. However, something brings the team back together.

At the convention, fans learned that Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, will join the game as a playable character. I hope that eventually the movies will introduce her to the world. Her comic is a really good one, and this is a character that I shared with my daughter.

Predator: Hunting Grounds

While the above-mentioned games will appeal to kids, this one? Not so much. … Predator: Hunting Grounds, which will release next year, is a first-person, shooter-style game in which players are either part of the squad of military elite out to perform missions and take down the Predator, or they are the Predator out to take down that squad. In the opening sequence, there are easter eggs from the original movie, including tape in a boom box labeled “Ain’t Got Time 2 Bleed,” a line made famous by Jesse Ventura. There were several stations at the NYCC where people could get hands-on with the game.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

I could not find any news from NYCC about the game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, despite the fact that it’s slated to release next week; nonetheless, it is a game that I cannot wait to start playing. The story follows Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who survived Order 66. Now, it’s up to you to keep Cal alive throughout the game. From what I have seen, there appears to be dynamic gameplay, an interesting story, and many memorable characters. The game also features the very talented Cameron Monaghan in the title role, and the character is designed to look like him, too. The game features cameos by other characters that we know, too, such as Saw Gerrera.

Plenty of new games are headed your way. What are you excited to play?
