Anyone who has spent hours creating architectural masterpieces or crafting a Sim to look just like them knows that The Sims is an addicting game.
For some, that video game addiction is about to pay off. A reality competition series based on the life simulation game is premiering on TBS on July 17.
In The Sims Spark’d, 12 contestants will race against the clock in a series of elimination challenges to build the most unique characters, worlds, and stories in The Sims 4. Created by Electronic Arts, ELEAGUE, and Buzzfeed Multiplayer, the four-episode series will award the winner with $100,000.
American Idol finalist Rayvon Owen will host the show alongside three judges: BuzzFeed Multiplayer YouTube personality Kelsey Impicciche, famous for her #100babychallenge series she created with The Sims; singer-songwriter Tayla Parx, who has done voice-acting work for the game and sang her song, “Me vs. Us” in Simlish (in-game language) for The Sims 4 Get Famous expansion pack; and Maxis game developer Dave Miotke aka SimGuruNinja. Maxis is the development studio behind The Sims.
Since its release in 2000, The Sims has been known for its in-game storytelling and personalization, letting players create and control characters in a virtual world. To coincide with the show, The Sims 4 is launching a series of in-game challenges on July 17, called the Spark’d Challenge Program. The top creators in the game will be considered for a future season of The Sims Spark’d.
The Sims Spark’d will premiere on Friday, July 17, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on TBS. Each episode will also stream on the BuzzFeed Multiplayer YouTube channel on the Monday after it is televised.
