tmntbattlesnapgames_futureofplayTake Rock-Paper-Scissors, amp up the head-to-head dual, and throw in some TNMNT action and you’ll have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles BattleSnap Games, from Future of Play.

The game comes with six interchangeable game figures, two battlesnap cards, one sewer slam crane, and seven miniature pizza slices. Before the action begins, kids must set up their battle zone. All that takes is popping the taller piece into the base, and then placing the card cradles into the two arms.

Now, kids are ready for a little sewer slam fun. The rules are easy; kids pick a game figure—either Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, Behop, or Rocksteady—and flip the card base over to place their character face down on the card top. Before they place their figures on the card cradles, kids must spin the miniature card to find out what they will draw. It will land on either a Pizza, Weapon, or Mutagen card. A Pizza card beats a Weapon card, a Weapon card beats a Mutagen card, and a Mutagen card beats a Pizza card (but only in this game, because IRL nothing beats pizza, obviously).

Once both players have a figure and an attack ready, they put their card into the holder with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo face-up. Both players hit their green NYC buttons simultaneously, which makes both arms drop and instantly flip the cards over to reveal both, each player’s character and attack card. Whichever player wins collects a slice of pizza. The first player to make a whole pie—collect four slices of pizza—is the winner.

There are some things kids should keep in mind while they play. First of all, in order for the arms to drop when kids press on the green button, the tall tower piece has to properly snap into the game base. If you don’t hear a click, then it isn’t in properly. Additionally, the game base has four spots to hold up the characters that kids aren’t using in the game. Depending on how they are positioned on it, they sometimes get in the way of the two arms when they drop. If that’s the case, just remove them and have them watch the battle from a different spot.

Though it may be simple, it’s a fast-moving and fun game. The element of surprise will keep kids on the edge of their seats as they anxiously wait for the battle reveal where they will see which player has fate on their side.
