Star Trek: Prodigy premieres on July 8. | Source: Nickelodeon

The original animated series Star Trek: Prodigy is making its debut on Nickelodeon this Friday with an hour-long premiere.

Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of lawless teens after they come across a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning, and salvation. Unlike the rest of the Star Trek franchise, the teens don’t know anything about the ship, but they will be introduced to Starfleet and everything it represents over the course of the series.

The premiere episode is titled “Lost & Found” and in it, Dal must gather an unlikely crew for their newfound ship if they are going to escape Tars Lamora, but The Diviner and his daughter Gwyn have other plans.

The characters include Rok-Tahk, a Brikar and a very smart 8-year-old girl; Dal, a 17-year-old unknown species who believes he is a maverick; Zero, a Medusan/AKA a noncorporeal, genderless, energy-based lifeform; Jankom Pog, a 16-year-old Tellarite who loves an argument; Gwyn, a 17-year-old Vau N’Akat who was raised on her father’s bleak mining planet; Murf, an unknown, indestructible blob with an insatiable appetite for ship parts; and Hologram Captain Janeway, the starship’s built-in emergency training hologram.
