Stacktopus

Stacktopus

Sometimes it’s the simplest games that wind up being the most fun.

PlayMonster‘s Stacktopus sticks its silly sea fingers right into that category.

Players slip their fingers into the included rubbery octopus arms (aka “octo-fingers”) and set out to stack some cups. That might sound easy, but it’s not supposed to be, and that’s where the challenge comes in!

To play the game, kids draw from the included deck of 24 stack cards to receive their mission. From there, it’s a fast-paced race to see which player can complete the colorful stack on their card first. Kids place three octo-fingers onto one hand to tackle the task. Nine of the awkward appendages are included, so up to three players can take part in the fun.

While it’s advertised for kids ages 5 and up, the octo-fingers are big enough that they fit most hands — including players who just might be a decade or two (or three) into the “and up” range. That means that Stacktopus makes for a perfect family game, or a game that grownups can enjoy sans kids.

In the complete interest of full disclosure, I will fully admit that no kids were present the first couple of times I had a chance to play Stacktopus. I don’t feel bad about it either.

As more families rediscover the simple joy of spending time together while playing games at home, Stacktopus is a perfect addition to the game shelf. It’s a game that can be played quickly, stores easily, and will put smiles on faces all the way around.
