Regal Games, known for making retro games, is bringing back the Whirl-O, a magnetic tin top launcher toy. Users roll a top along the two parallel disks, or rails, and can watch the colors morph or launch the top to do tricks. Once users master the “Simple Spin,” they can move on to other techniques like “Takin’ a Whirl,” “The Waterfall,” or “Ice Cream Scoop.” The toy comes in three colors: red and blue, orange and yellow, and teal and yellow.
The faster the Simple Spin, and the better users stick the landing, the longer the top will stay spinning. Since the launcher is made entirely of metal, users can pick up the spinning top by the shoulder, the hubcap, or the rails, to make up their own tricks. The Whirl-O also features educational aspects and allows kids to explore concepts like magnets, the wheel and axle, and the role our eyes play in the perception of light. Regal Games has developed lesson plans for elementary school students using the toy.
Kickstarter donations range from $8 to $1,000 and prizes include Whirl-Os in single or double packs and a t-shirt. Additional prizes include The Overworked Teacher Pack, which includes 32 Whirl-Os and pre-written lesson plans for elementary school students; I Want That In My Store Retailer Pack, which includes 72 Whirl-Os to be sold at retail; Give the Teacher a Break pack, where a member of the team will teach a Whirl-O lesson plan in a classroom; and The Super Ridiculous Retail bundle, where the owner of Regal Games LLC will come to a store to sell and teach customers how to use the toy.
