When I was in elementary school, art class was always my favorite hour of the day. Getting to take a break from academic lessons to create a drawing or craft was the only solace I had against the other hours in which I was forced to sit still at a desk and pretend to understand math.

When I got home from school, I would immediately get back to my arts and crafts. Any toy I could draw on was always my first choice during playtime. No matter how many phrases a talking action figure shouted at me, I was always more interested in a colorful makeover.

The Crayola Qwikflip 2-Sided Glow Easel, from Grow’n Up Ltd, is the toy I would have dreamed about when I was a kid. And since its existence 20 years ago probably would have saved my mother a whole lot of time scrubbing my artwork off the walls (sorry, Mom), it would certainly have been the item she dreamed about, too.

The main features of this easel, and the features that separate it from the basic easels I had the chance to get my hands on as a kid, are the 10 LED light sequences that light up kids’ artwork. Kids can draw on the glow surface before turning on the LED lights, and their drawing is an ordinary—though I’m sure very beautiful—piece of art. But then, flip the switch and watch as their artwork explodes with brilliant color. Continue flipping the switch through nine different blinking light sequences, and the simple doodle transforms into a spectacular technicolor lightshow.

Kids’ creativity will continue to soar as they easily flip the easel (they don’t call it Qwikflip for nothin’) and continue drawing on a smooth chalkboard surface.

Included with the primary-colored — that’s red, blue, and yellow for those who preferred math in school — easel are two gel markers to use on the glow surface, four pieces of Crayola colored chalk, and an eraser. A tray fits snuggly below the 19.8- by 40-inch drawing surfaces to hold all of kids’ art supplies.

The Easel comes disassembled, but parents have no need to worry. Putting the easel together is qwik (see what I did there) and easy, as pieces slide simply into one another and no tools are necessary for construction. Directions for assembly are clear and easy to follow.

With fun for the kids and zero stress for the adults, the Crayola Qwikflip 2-Sided Glow Easel will qwikly (I did it again!) become everyone’s favorite part of playtime.
