Figures from the classic Star Trek movie series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Trek: Discovery | Source: Playmates Toys/The Toy Insider

Prepare to enter the final play room frontier with the new Star Trek collectible action figures and  spaceship playset from Playmates Toys.

Designed for kids ages 4 and up, the 5-inch action figures are categorized according to the part of the Star Trek Universe in which they belong: the classic Star Trek movie series, the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series, or the Star Trek: Discovery TV series.

The figures from the classic movies come from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and include Captain Spock, Admiral James T. Kirk, and Khan Noonien Singh. Each box comes with a collectible bio of the character that kids can clip off the packaging. The figures themselves have many intricate details, such as the golden insignias on Spock and Kirk’s jackets or the necklace around Khan’s neck. They are poseable for both role-play or displaying purposes, since they come with a Starfleet action base to stand them up.

Each character also comes with an assortment of galactic accessories unique to them. These accessories aren’t just weapons, but also items that have a prominent place in each character’s storyline. For instance, it was fun to find a mini bowl of Ceti eels as one of Khan’s accessories or a pair of radiation gloves for Spock. Kids who are familiar with Star Trek will really enjoy these details, as it allows them to develop more creative storylines while playing.

The figures from Star Trek: The Next Generation include Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Lieutenant Commander Data, and Commander William Riker. The packaging for these figures also has a clippable bio for each character on the corner of the box. They are perfect for playing or displaying, as each box comes with a display stand that clips onto the figures’ feet. Each character comes with starfleet gear to help them on their journey, such as a type II hand phaser, a field kit with survival rations, and a PADD (Personal Access Display Device) for recording the Captain’s notes and actions.

Science Officer Michael Burnham and Commander Saru are the figures from Star Trek: Discovery. The packaging for these characters is more simplistic and does not have the collectible bios, but the characters themselves are still portrayed in remarkable detail. In addition to the display stand, they also come with a variety of accessories. Perhaps the smallest detail is the miniature copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland that comes with Michael Burnham, which is complete with an illustrated cover.

All of the action figures have a wide range of movement. Kids can pose the characters by bending a variety of joints, like the elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, and even ankles. Although the figures can stand on their own, placing them on the display stands ensures that they are more stable and upright. All of the figures are able to carry their accessories in their hands, but some grips are looser than others. For example, Michael Burnham can hold the phaser steadily, but the book might fall out of her hand if kids bump it during play. The figures feel durable for their price and will be able to withstand lots of playtime. Even though these toys are based on Star Trek, anyone can enjoy them as an introduction to the universe. The range of characters available will pique kids’ interests about the Star Trek universe

Lastly, no Star Trek collection is complete without the U.S.S. Enterprise, the original vessel from the classic TV show. Playmates Toys’ Star Trek collection also offers an 18-inch replica of the ship, which comes with two engine nacelles that can easily attach to the main part of the ship. It also features multiple light and sound effects from the original TV show. The sound effects include firing sounds and captain command phrases.

This version of the U.S.S. Enterprise is made from durable plastic. It is not built to scale in relation to the action figures, nor does it open up in any way. However, kids can still incorporate the ship into imaginative play. The ship also does come with a display stand that makes it the perfect centerpiece for a Star Trek collection.

These new toys are sure to delight the Star Trek fans in your life. Whether they are die-hard Trekkie tweens who would enjoy these budget-friendly collectibles or young kids who are ready to learn more about the Final Frontier through imaginative play, the Playmates Toys’ Star Trek collection is out-of-this-world.
