Learning to read gets a digital upgrade with Osmo’s newest product!

Designed for little readers ages 5 and up, Osmo Reading Adventure takes kids on a magical adventure into the learning world. This interactive, personalized, subscription-based reading program helps kids build confidence in their reading skills, all under the guise of a fun time.

As with most of Osmo’s products, Osmo Reading Adventure requires a compatible device such as an iPad or tablet, internet access, an email account, and an Apple ID — perhaps parents can help with this first part. Readers will also need the included Osmo base and reflector in order to get started, as well as the four included interactive books — Tom the Squirrel, Will Cat Fit?, The Fisher, and Sam Is Wet — and the crystal wand. Once all the necessary materials are gathered, set-up is easy.

Kids are joined by Oliver and Nebula — the main characters — as they go on their magical reading journey. Oliver is enthusiastic and optimistic, and still learning to read himself. On the other hand, Nebula is an avid reader, but needs kids’ voices to turn language into magic. The two characters appear throughout the game, helping little readers sound out words and match sounds.

Osmo Reading Adventure was developed in partnership with educators, creating a fun and educational way for kids to get inspired to read. The program uses physical and digital play, along with automatic speech recognition technology, to cover critical reading skills for kindergarten through first grade.

That being said, one of the best parts about this game is the way kids use the magic crystal wand to bring images and words on the page to life on screen. In one game, little ones must listen to the sounds the characters make and match a word on their book’s page by tapping with the wand. Parents can watch in real time as kids learn basic phonics, practice sight words, and build confidence by reading with Oliver and Nebula.
