At this week’s E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles, Calif., Nintendo showed off amiibo, a new gaming experience that will provide users with unique, new ways to play their favorite Nintendo games. Amiibo interactive figures have the ability to communicate with multiple specially designed games when users touch them to the Wii U GamePad controller, bringing Nintendo into the toys-to-life category. amiibo interactive figures are scheduled to arrive this year, and can be used with multiple Nintendo games, bringing Nintendo characters to the toys-to-life category.
Not only can amiibo interact with a particular game, but a single amiibo is compatible across multiple games when placed on the Wii U gamepad.
Nintendo will launch amiibo with about 10 figures, with more to come during the holiday season and throughout 2015. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to support amiibo. Additional games that will support amiibo include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come. A new NFC reader/writer is currently in production for Nintendo 3DS that is scheduled to launch next year.
