The popular cartoon Adventure Time was inspired in part by video games, and next month, D3Publisher will be turning the tables. Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW! packs all the action, fun, and all-ages appeal of a typical Adventure Time episode into a home console game. Players start out choosing between Finn, Jake, Cinnamon Bun, or Marceline, the Vampire Queen, but as they make their way through the dungeon-crawling missions, they unlock more characters such as Ice King and Flame Princess. The game play only requires mastering a few buttons, though each character has unique abilities that add a sense of variety: Marceline, for example, regains life points if she blocks attacks that are colored red.

Fans of Adventure Time should enjoy the consistency between the new game and the original cartoon. Each character, for example, has a special attack that ought to be familiar to regular viewers: Jake can call on his girlfriend, Lady Rainicorn, to help him out, while Marceline can stop the action for a rocking musical number. The game also features the original voice actors, who shout out random bits of dialogue. But the best part is the four-player option that lets you bring a few friends along for each new adventure. It definitely seems in the spirit of the cartoon, where monster-bashing, friendship, and fun tend to go hand-in-hand.

Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW!
will be available November 19 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.
