It’s really no secret around here that I’m a huge fan of the Nerf blasters, so to get the chance to switch it up a little and play with the new Nerf Mega ThunderBow Blaster—a blaster made to look like the coolest bow and arrow set—made me incredibly happy.
A lot of new Nerf products that will be on the shelves this holiday season are getting pretty high-tech. (In fact, one of those blasters even made our Top Tech 12 list this year!) They’ve got motors, lights, cameras, the whole shebang—so what’s really cool about this ThunderBow is that the concept is pretty simple. Mom and Dad won’t be running around looking for a million batteries, because it doesn’t require any. Just some good ole’ fashioned kid power. So while the tech-y bells and whistles are super fun, sometimes it’s nice to go back to classic play.
The Nerf Mega line features bigger darts for bigger battles—and the ThunderBow will launch them up to 100 feet. Kids can load five of the Mega whistler darts in a row without reloading—and the bow comes with 10, so you don’t have to worry about chasing those five down to reload quickly.
The bow itself features flexing bow arms for realistic bow and arrow action. It has a durable strong with guides to show you how to pull back, so you feel like a real, professional archer. As you pull back, the blaster gives you a green signal to let you know you can release for maximum power. When kids release, the darts “scream” through the air, giving them a sense of the sort of power this blaster contains. This bow is sure to keep kids entertained well into their tween and teen years—and, quite frankly, would keep most of my adult friends entertained as well.
