Board game fans can help have a hand in an iconic game thanks to Hasbro‘s Monopoly Throwback Token Vote. The contest gives fans across the world the opportunity to bring back one of six retired tokens from the game: the thimble, the wheelbarrow, the iron, the boot, the horse and rider, or the money bag.
The token that wins the most fan votes will get a spot in a new version of the Monopoly that will hit U.S. shelves this fall, followed by a global launch next spring. Monopoly tokens are a historical component of the game first introduced in 1935. The original tokens from the 1930s include Scottie, the battleship, the receiver, and the top hat. Since then, Monopoly has developed into a globally recognized game brand that is enjoyed by more than 1 billion players in 114 countries.
“We know that fans across the globe have been missing the tokens of their childhood, and now is the chance to take a trip down memory lane and bring one back,” says Hasbro Gaming Senior Vice President and General Manager Adam Biehl.
Current board game tokens include Scottie, the battleship, the race car, the top hat, the penguin, the T. rex, Hazel, and the rubber duck. These current selections will be replaced in the forthcoming edition of Monopoly.
