Time to get these velociraptors a new alpha.

Designed for kids ages 8 and up, Mattel’s Kamigami Jurassic World Velociraptor “Blue” Robot Kit is just want kids need to fuel their prehistoric play in the weeks leading up to the highly anticipated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom film. Available in two different styles—including Blue and the new hybrid Indoraptor—kids can use their smart device and the Kamigami app to make their new robotic friends move just like real dinosaurs.

Before kids begin to assemble their robot, they’ll need to download the free Kamigami Jurassic World companion app—free for both iOS and Android devices—to access the online assembly instructions. The main shell of the robot is composed of lightweight, plastic pieces that kids can fold and snap together. Other components include a core module, snap rivets, and pre-assembled arms and legs. There are no tools required to construct their bot, so kids can be independent during this twenty minute process.

Once kids have put together their robot, the power is in their hands. Featuring a drag and drop interface, the app lets kids customize their robots’ movements and interactions, and even lets them control lighting and sound effects via Bluetooth. As kids put mileage on their dinosaurs, they can complete challenges and unlock new abilities to further their play. And as they progress, they can “evolve” their velociraptor by changing its eye color, charge attack, and more. The app scratches the surface of important STEM skills like robotics engineering, coding, and logic, so young enthusiasts will benefit from educational and rewarding play.

The coolest part about these Kamigami robots is how they move. Each bot features sensor array technology, which uses an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an IR transmitter (what is that? idk.), and an IR sensor to help make the robot’s movement more lifelike.

Kamigami robots operate best on flat, hard surfaces. A wood or tile floor is ideal, but a concrete or brick driveway will also work when the summer sun calls for outdoor play.
