My Very Hungry Caterpillar, from StoryToys and The Eric Carle Studio, is a 3-D form app based on the caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle. What strikes me the most about the app is the sound effects. There is a gentle, soothing tune that plays continuously in the background. When the caterpillar engages in different activities, each sound effect is whimsical and enchanting, such crisply rustling leaves when you pick apples or pears for the caterpillar to eat, a beautiful note progression as you water the flowerpots to help him grow his flowers, and an unexpectedly satisfying solid knocking sound as the caterpillar knocks his beach ball around the room. Kids can care for him, play with him, and put him to bed until he eventually transforms into a butterfly. Then, a new egg appears and he will hatch again, ready for new adventures.
