Guess what I did today? I built some new colorful, quirky, and whimsical pals! And you can too with Kid K’Nex Budding Builders Tub, from K’NEX.

This building set comes with more than 100 pieces in a multitude of colors and shapes, allowing kids to construct unique, one-of-a-kind figures. Different shaped rods, personality pieces (such as eye pieces), and snowflake-shaped body pieces are just a few of the types of pieces one can expect to find in this set.

While we review a lot of K’NEX building sets typically for older kids, this set is classified as a Kid K’NEX set, intended for children ages 3 to 5. The pieces are very large and chunky, perfect for little builders hands,  and guaranteeing a simple and easy build. My stress levels were relatively low (for once) while assembling my new K’NEX friends—phew. It was a fun set to build with and it really spurred my creativity making me wonder: How should I construct my new friend? What should I name it? How many likes will this get on Instagram?

The set comes with more than 50 ideas that kids can use to help them construct their new pals. Initially, I started following one of the models pictured on the instructions, and then branched off and did my own thing. It’s a great building set to encourage imaginative play and hone fine motor skills in kids. While a lot of pieces in the set will snap together, it will prompt kids to problem solve when the pieces don’t click, or their figure is falling over and needs more support. (My figure may have been a little wobbly, at times).

And *drumroll please*… the thing parents will love about this set it that it comes with a sturdy plastic tub so kids can store their pieces when playtime is over. YASSS. And we all lived happily ever after!

Got older kids? They’ll love the K’NEX Web Weaver Roller Coaster Building Set.
