I’m a parent who loves to involve my daughter in the things that I do. With that being said, I’m also a control freak who has a hard time assigning any responsibilities to anyone else. This is especially true during the holidays.
Each year, our family does a holiday gift exchange. Each family makes a gift—whether it’s food or craft—for each of the other families. There are about 20 families in all which means each year, we’re creating 20 gifts on top of the gifts that we give teachers, mail persons, friends, and other family members.
It’s why I don’t mind allowing some of the responsibilities to fall on my little helper. I know I’m not the only parent that struggles to include their kids as a holiday helper, but I found a way! I recruited my daughter to create four adorable and unique gift tags for our Christmas gifts.
They’re inexpensive, easy, and can be made using just a few supplies we had around the house!
Holiday Snowman Gift Tag Craft
This one is my daughter’s favorite to make! She thinks it’s so cute and cuddly and the 3D effect really makes it POP off the page. (See what I did there?)
What you’ll need:
1. A blank gift tag
2. 3 cotton balls
3. A hot glue gun or Elmer’s glue
4. A marker and/or some watercolor or finger paint
Add a little glue to each of the three cotton balls. Have your kiddo stack them as if they’re building a snowman. Then, using a marker or pen, draw arms and a top hat onto the paper. Then add a little watercolor for a pop of color.
On the back, your kiddo can write the “To:” and “From:” names.
Polka Dotted Christmas Tree Tag Craft
I love this one because you can use markers, watercolors, or any type of non-toxic paint and kids can virtually decorate their own tree.
What you’ll need:
1. A blank gift tag
2. A few cotton swabs
3. Watercolor or paint palette and/or markers in different colors
Using a cotton swab (Q-Tip) or a marker, have your kiddo draw a series of dots in the shape of a tree. Then add red or other colored dots for a pop of color, and use another swab to draw brown dots for a trunk.
Reverse Dotted Christmas Tree Tag Craft
This version of the dotted tree is like the previous one, but in reverse. Instead of creating an outline and filling in with dots, we’re just creating a background of dots around an outline of a tree. It makes for a very colorful gift tag and allows kids to use ALL the colors!
What you’ll need:
1. A blank gift tag
2. A few cotton swabs or Q-Tips
3. Watercolor or paint palette and/or markers in different colors
Using a piece of paper or cardboard, cut a triangle shape slightly smaller than your gift tag. Holding the paper in place, let your kiddo go nuts using different colors around the border of the paper and all around the tag.
Once you move the piece of paper from the tag, there are dots of color everywhere that make the shape of a Christmas tree!
Reindeer Thumbprint Christmas Tree Tag Craft
Kids love getting their hands dirty, so this gift tag craft is right up their alley!
What you’ll need:
1. A blank gift tag
2. Paint or watercolor with which kids can use their fingers
3. Pens and/or markers in different colors
Have your kiddo dip their little thumbs into brown watercolor or other non-toxic paint, then plop their thumb onto the gift tag several times, re-coating their thumb each time. Let the paint dry. Once the paint is dry, they can draw antlers, ears, and smiley faces on the reindeer.
