Get ready to make a splash — International Learn to Swim Day is May 18!
SwimWays’ International Learn to Swim Day is designed to raise awareness about the importance of teaching kids how to swim. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths for kids ages 1 to 14. International Learn to Swim Day helps educate parents on why it’s important for kids to learn to swim — and different ways to make it fun!
National Learn to Swim Day was founded by Swimways in 2012, and for the past three years, they have partnered with the USA Swimming Foundation. Thanks to its current parent company Spin Master, SwimWays was able to expand it internationally to become International Learn to Swim Day — and added some new Paw Patrol friends.
Here are a few ways you can celebrate:
- Enroll your kids in swim lessons. You can do this through USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash local partners, a local YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and other local swim clubs.
- Visit a community pool as a family.
- Host a group swimming lesson at a local pool.
- Take a CPR or First Aid class.
- Talk to your kids about water safety.

SwimWays breaks down learning to swim in three Swim Steps.
Swim Step 1: The first time in the pool!
This is for baby’s first introduction to the pool. SwimWays’ baby floats promote security with wide bases, smart inflation technology, and sturdy mesh seats. Many contain additional pool toys, as well as fold up easily to pack up and go.
Swim Step 2: Ready to paddle and splash!
As kids discover what happens when they kick their feet in the water or splash on the surface, they’re gaining more comfort and confidence in the water. SwimWays’ products here are designed to be functional enough for kids to let them explore while training them to balance and paddle.
Swim Step 3: Teach me to swim!
Once kids are confident in the water, they finally begin to swim on their own! SwimWays’ products designed for this step — including the Power Swimr training vest — help kids progress at their own pace.
