Love makes the world go round — and so does hair.

You may remember the Academy Award-winning short film Hair Love from Matthew A. Cherry and Sony Pictures Animation about a Black father facing a daunting task for any man: doing his daughter’s hair for the first time.

The short film resonated with people across the country, especially fathers who have found themselves in the same situation. The characters from that short are living on in a new 2D animated series called Young Love. HBO Max gave the green light for a 12-episode season created by Cherry, who will act as showrunner alongside animation creative Carl Jones.

Young Love will peek into the world of the Young family from Hair Love, featuring the millennial parents as they juggle their careers, marriage, parenthood, social issues, and multi-generational dynamics.

HBO Max has not announced an air date yet, but we’ll be patiently waiting for it to hit our screens!
