As a Potterhead, I’d do anything to be a witch. The muggle world just doesn’t have the same wild adventures and magic.
While the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Florida is amazing, I can’t wave my wand, recite an incantation, and have money appear before me to cover the trip. So, fun toys hold me over until I can fly over there — hopefully in a magical flying car if Ford could figure out the logistics.
Wow! Stuff clearly understands this muggle struggle. The company just released the Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak, and it’s just as fun as you would expect.
It’s as if Professor Dumbledore handed me the real-deal cape, which looks almost exactly like the one in the movies. The cloak is two-sided, with a detailed pattern printed on velvety fabric on one side and bright green fabric on the other. It comes with a clasp on the neckline so that you can wear it without holding it.
There are three different cloaks for fans can choose from depending on the quality level you’d like: There is the basic version that just has the cloak, the Walmart-exclusive version that includes a phone stand, and the deluxe version that includes a tripod. All are great quality, but the increase in pricing determines which phone stand and type of cloak you receive. The deluxe cloak’s design has the most similarities with the movie’s cloak and a printed pattern that is more intricate than the two others; plus, it comes with the tripod to prevent shaky videos.
Setup is easy: Simply fire up the Wow! Stuff app on your phone or tablet. Create an account, and enter the included product authentication code on the instruction manual to access the Invisibility Cloak App. Once in, hold up your phone or tablet and allow the camera to focus on one point. It will send a prompt stating when it’s ready. Have a friend walk into the camera frame and put the cloak on with the green fabric facing the camera. Then, you can start snapping pics or shooting videos that you can share with friends and family.
Although you may experience some trouble trying to get the invisibility effect to work at first, it’s easy to reset the camera and invisibility mode. It’s best for the person wearing the cloak to stay out of frame until the invisibility mode is on. Then, it will automatically make anything under the cape appear to disappear. With the app and cloak, you can pretend you have a floating head, or make objects seem to float like in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Then, you can take it outside and create magical footprints in the snow or sand, as seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Don’t mind the weird looks you’ll get. Those people are just jealous.
Wow! Stuff also thought of everything, including a phone stand or tripod you can use while filming, even if you’re one of the millions of people who has a PopSocket. Although it’s just plastic, it’s sturdy enough to hold my giant, troll-sized Google Pixel through an hour or two of me recreating my favorite HP scenes.
The Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak stays true to the original Harry Potter story and lets fans bring home a movie replica. With the cloak and app, they can easily share their love of HP and the Wizarding World with friends and family. Potterheads can live out their dreams of being a wizard at home without the expensive plane and admission tickets. No brooms or magical flying cars are needed.
