Sometimes, it’s not about a toy, but it’s about engagement with a toy to give kids their own creative processes during playtime. Inventor K-O Johansen kept this in mind as his main goal in designing GumbleBumble, a new kind of construction toy. He came up with the idea with a concept that roots back to his childhood—that creating something with his own imagination had more value than anything else.
GumbleBumble seeks to generate intuitive playtime through non-structured, free, and independent play with no right or wrong. The magic is in two simple components: navy blue balls and pink noodles made out of expanded polypropylene foam (think: the material for most pool toys). They were designed to interact with each other for kids to create thousands of possible construction combinations. Each ball has a 5.7 inch diameter with 6 through-holes, while each noodle is 1.5 inches in diameter and can be cut to any desired length.
Kids can create anything with their imaginations, from a sword to fight a dragon or a house to play in. They can turn any space into a fun, creative, and save environment where innovative thoughts can expand. GumbleBumble can be used indoors, outdoors, or even in the water!
Kickstarter donations range from $1 to $704, and prizes include various packages of lengths and amounts of the noodles and balls, respectively. They can also be shipped to anywhere in the world.
