The latest kit from Goldie Blox, GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank, is an adorable new addition to the line of interactive storybooks and construction sets that appeal to girls and help them become familiar with STEM concepts, especially engineering, in a way that’s compatible with the way girls are wired to learn.
In GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank, Goldie has to find a way to get her dog Nacho clean. Her main problem is that Nacho hates water and loves being a dirty dog (dogs love rolling around and being covered in mud!). After many unsuccessful tries to get Nacho clean, Goldie finally comes up with the perfect contraption to trick Nacho into taking a bath. As girls ages 4 and up read along, they help Goldie build a dunk tank to get Nacho clean so everyone can get to the carnival on time.
The story not only teaches kids a very creative way to clean their dog, but allows girls to learn about hinges and levers as they build the dunk tank for Nacho. This set teaches spatial skills and engineering principles, all while building kids’ confidence in problem-solving. The set includes 52 pieces along with a storybook and three design ideas, and allows for unlimited building possibilities. The set’s pieces are compatible with all other Goldie Blox toys.
This set, and all of the Goldie Blox sets, are amazing for little girls because they aren’t just the pink-washed version of the construction sets designed for boys. Goldie Blox’s sets are designed to teach girls these STEM concepts in the style in which girls learn. For example, instead of the usual building instructions, Goldie Blox instructions come in the form of storybook because girls seem to respond to this method of instruction better. The pieces are rounded and not block shaped, which are more appealing to girls. The kit also inspires creativity, providing instructions for the dunk tank, but allowing for unlimited builds. Girls can take the concepts they learn and apply it to their own creations!
