Go Banana Go

It’s new music Friday, and that means it’s time for some new family-friendly jams — and this week’s highlight comes from an unexpectedly awesome team.

Grownups familiar with the work of popular comedy rockers Starbomb and NSP (that’s an acronym, Google is your friend) might be excited to know that Ninja Brian has ditched his traditional stealth garb to reveal Brian Wecht, a retired theoretical physicist (100% true) and one half of the new kindie band Go Banana Go!

Go Banana Go! is a band that makes it very clear from the start what they’re all about — making funny family music with the sole purpose of having fun. Wecht and bandmate Jim Roach (a songwriter/producer who has worked with the likes of Amy Schumer, Linkin Park, and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, in addition to producing NSP’s Billboard chart-topping comedy albums) have assembled Hi-Ya!, a debut album that features catchy tunes about super cows, dinosaur chicken nuggets, pizza on your feet, the German language, and of course, bananas. The album is out today along with the animated music video for “Pizza Feet” — a song inspired by that time Wecht found his daughter walking around with a pizza box on her feet.

The 12-song set features songs that Wecht and Roach originally began writing, in part, for their own kids. Songs include “Music to Put Your Shoes On To,” “Dinosaur Tickles,” and “Stinky Diapers.” On “German Lessons,” the duo is joined by German comedian Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2, Teen Titans Go!) who kids probably heard recently as the voice of Dickory, one of the bounty hunter trolls in DreamWorks Trolls World Tour.

So crank up the jams with Go Banana Go! on Spotify, Apple Music, and all of your favorite digital music providers.
