The first step is to burst your collectibles out of their pods to reveal their true selves. The pods are hard plastic shells that look like tulip bulbs. Place a pod on the wand and squeeze the flower stem to make the pod burst open. To be honest, it took me a while to get the pods to burst open so I got impatient and used my hands to open it instead, but I saw on YouTube that it usually happens with a few squeezes of the wand.
After the shell breaks away, your Glitter Burst is revealed in its plump form, which looks like a sparkly, translucent bubble that is slightly bouncy like a balloon. You can choose how much to inflate it, making it as small as a golf ball or as large as a grapefruit. Pluck it off the wand to play with the character in its plump form or press the button on the base of the wand to instantly suck the air out and deflate it, transforming it into a squishy, collectible character that is opaque with glitter. You can inflate and deflate the Glitter Burst as many times as you want. Be prepared to sparkle — the glitter won’t make a mess, but it will definitely add glitz to anything you touch.
Now, let’s get acquainted with this fantastical Glitter Burst world. The Glitter Burst characters are enchanted creatures with secret powers, each containing its own spirit energy that is literally inside the characters in the form of a 3D symbol, such as a heart, a flame, a lightning bolt, a water droplet, a flower, a star, a sun, a moon, or a diamond. Each pack includes a paper that explains what the spirit energies and secret powers mean. For example, a Glitter Burst with a star inner spirit has the power of wishes, one with a flower inner spirit has the power of growth, one with a heart inner spirit has the power of love, and so on. There are nine different spirit energies and powers in total. The powers don’t give the toy any tangible features, but rather act as a backstory that adds personality to the characters, making kids more invested in collecting them all.
There are more than 30 varieties of Glitter Burst characters, including rare and ultra-rare. There are kitties, llamas, frogs, turtles, bunnies, dragons, and a ton of different animals. Considering the starter pack includes four characters for only $9.99, paired with the fact that you can inflate and deflate the characters as many times as you want, you get a lot of bang for your buck. While the actual surprise unboxing will only happen once, the replay value is high because it’s easy and addicting to grow, shrink, and squish the collectibles over and over. Kids can also display them, trade them, and accumulate them as you would any collectible toy.
