Who you gonna call? The usual answer would be Ghostbusters, but now players themselves can get in on the action and save the world with Ghostbusters: The Board Game. The new game is an episodic adventure where players are charged with busting ghosts and stealing gates to the Spirit World.
The game is customizable, cooperative, and re-playable. It features illustrations and figures based on the original artwork and designs by Dan Schoening, the artist in the IDW comic book series. Each Ghostbuster has a distinct role and unlocks unique abilities. The game also offers modes for different levels of players.
To play, up to four players take on the roles of the Ghostbusters and attempt to return balance between the Spirit World and ours through a series of scenarios that require teamwork, planning, and resourcefulness. The game features three campaigns, each with 4 unique scenarios. Each scenario takes about 30 minutes to complete, and each campaign ends with a battle against a boss character. The game uses dice to resolve a lot of the action, so players will never play the same game twice. Each set comes with four Ghostbusters (Venkman, Spengler, Staintz, Zeddemore), three bosses (Slimer, Idulmas, Stay Puft Mashmallow Man), 20 Galloping Ghouls, 12 Gruesome Twosomes, eight Boogaloo Manifestations, ten double-sided game board tiles, dice, tokens, and player and ghost cards.
Kickstarter donations range from $80 to $125 and prizes range from the base game, a deluxe game box, Kickstarter exclusive characters, and additional episodes for the game. There is also a $288 special for verified retailers, which includes six base games, all applicable stretch goals, and an exclusive glow-in-the-dark Slimer boss. Additional add-ons can be purchased, such as more figures and ghost cards.
Already fully funded after one day on Kickstarter, the campaign has two stretch goals. If the project reaches $300,000, then all pledges receive an Ecto-1 Upgrade; f the $350,000 stretch goal is unlocked, then the game will also include a Zuul character and ghost card.
