Fisher-Price toys can be repurposed in the Mattel PlayBack Program | Source: Mattel

It can be sad to watch your kids grow up and age out of certain toys, but it’s great to know that there are new opportunities to extend the usefulness of old or broken toys.

The Mattel PlayBack program launched last year as a toy takeback initiative in which families can send Barbie, MEGA, and Matchbox products back to Mattel to be repurposed. Now, Fisher-Price is joining the sustainability party.

Beginning today, non-electronic Fisher-Price toys, including products from the Little People, Laugh & Learn, and Imaginext brands will be welcomed into the program which supports Mattel’s goal of using 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastic materials in its products and packaging by 2030.

To participate, families can visit the Mattel PlayBack website for instructions and a free shipping label. Once received, the toys will be sorted and separated by material type and responsibly processed and recycled. For materials that cannot be repurposed as recycled content in new toys, Mattel PlayBack will either downcycle those materials into other plastic products or convert them from waste to energy.

Now, who’s got some old toys laying around?
