firefly communicatorThe Firefly Communicator is a device that allows people to mimic light patterns of fireflies with the press of a button to attract them. The communicator’s two-primary LED lights produce customizable light patterns based on the fireflies being communicated with. Placing the Firefly Communicator on a computer or cellphone screen and pressing the Code button allows new patterns to be recorded on SpeakFirefly.com, or by using the SpeakFirefly app.

The Firefly Communicator is supported by the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, which promotes worldwide understanding of the importance of biodiversity. Since the overall population numbers of fireflies is declining, the inspiration for this communicator is to bring awareness of the species. Fireflies can be found all over the world, and each species flashes a specific pattern.

Kickstarter donations range from $1 to $300 and prizes include Speak Firefly t-shirts, a pre-order for the first Firefly Communicators, and Firefly Communicators.
