Teen genius Ashley Garcia takes on the next great frontier — friendships — in the new Netflix series The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia. The show, which debuts on Feb. 17 on the streaming platform, follows 15-year-old STEM prodigy Ashley (Paulina Chávez) as she moves to California to start a new, prestigious tech job building robots for NASA.
In the series, the Latina leading lady attended college at age 9 and is the youngest person ever to earn two doctorates. However, spending her entire adolescent life studying has left the robotics engineer inexperienced in the ways of regular teen activities, including first crushes and parties. The new show, co-created by Mario Lopez (who makes a quick cameo in the trailer), navigates Ashley’s new life with her fun-loving Uncle Victor (Jencarlos Canela), a high school football coach, as she attempts to balance her impressive STEM career with a normal teen social life.
As Ashley proves in the trailer, anything is possible.
