Upside-Down Magic — based on the best-selling Scholastic kids’ book of the same name by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle, and Emily Jenkins — is set to premiere on Disney Channel next month in all of its magical glory. The story takes place at the Sage Academy for Magical Studies, following 13-year-old best friends as they come into their powers. Yes, it sorta sounds like Harry Potter, but you can never have too many wizardly coming-of-age stories.
The movie stars Izabela Rose and Siena Agudong as best friends Nory and Reina. One lands at the top of her class with her impressive ability to harness the power of fire, while the other finds herself in a class for upside-down magic aka defective magic that keeps turning her into a “Dritten” (half-kitten, half-dragon).
The school’s headmaster (Vicki Lewis) believes the unconventional powers leave kids vulnerable to dangerous and evil “shadow magic,” but Nory and her fellow classmates are ready to prove that upside-down magic beats right-side up in this story of friendship and self-discovery.
Upside-Down Magic will premiere on Friday, July 31, on Disney Channel. Families can also catch it starting on Saturday, Aug. 1, on DisneyNOW.
