Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is a decade old and PBS Kids is inviting everyone to help celebrate the preschool series’ 10th anniversary with a marathon of fan-favorite episodes, the premieres of Season 6, free activities, and new products!
The preschool series from Fred Rogers Productions is the first animated series inspired by Mister Rogers Neighborhood, featuring 4-year-old Daniel Tiger as the son of the original program’s Daniel Striped Tiger. Every day Daniel puts on his red sweater, ties his shoes, and invites a new generation of preschoolers into the Neighborhood of Make-Believe with his pretend pals O the Owl, Katerina Kittycat, Prince Wednesday, and Miss Elaina.
PBS Kids will kick off the celebrations on Sept. 3 with a 5-hour marathon of “Top Ten Tiger Tales,” showcasing 10 fan-chosen episodes from over the years, followed by the premiere of Season 6’s new episodes starting on Sept. 5. More anniversary programming includes movies like Daniel Tiger Visits a New Neighborhood and Won’t You Be Our Neighbor? In the new Season 6 episodes, viewers can watch preschool “firsts,” such as getting a new babysitter, going to a sleepover, and trying new activities, as well as strategy songs to help families navigate relatable situations. The full season will include 18 half-hour episodes.
Families can take part in free activities and resources inspired by the series on pbskids.org/daniel and the free PBS Kids Games app, including Daniel Tiger’s Nature Walk, a new digital game launching in September. In addition, kids can expect new Daniel Tiger products and toys at the end of August, including the plush Cuddle Up Daniel Tiger from Jakks Pacific; a Simon & Schuster board book called I Will Always Be Your Friend! by Angela C. Santomero (the creator of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood); and Daniel’s Red Sweater from Pact Organic — the first time Daniel’s iconic red sweater will be available at retail.
