Game manufacturer WizKids announced the release of a new cooperative game: Coraline: Beware the Other Mother. This game is based on the ghoulish, stop-motion animated feature film from Laika — button eyes and talking cats included.
In this cooperative, one- to four-player game, players take on the role of ghost children who have had their souls devoured by the Beldam — better known as the Other Mother. Players must help Coraline free her parents from the Beldam’s clutches by guiding her through the Other World as she tries to find object tokens that will allow her to escape: the skeleton key, the eyes of the ghost children, and a snow globe.
The game includes a Moon Deck timer, which has six moon cards. Every time the moon is advanced, players will reveal and discard the top card of the Moon Deck. If the final moon card is ever revealed, the players immediately lose the game and fall into the Beldam’s spider-like clutches.
The Beldam is controlled by the Beldam Story Deck, a separate deck of cards that will challenge Coraline throughout the game. Coraline may be forced to drop an object, discard a card, or advance the moon, depending on which card is drawn. If the Beldam Story Deck is empty at the start of the Beldam phase, the players lose. If Coraline manages to collect all five object tokens while in the living room, and the Beldam isn’t in the room with her, the players win.
The board game features all of the beloved characters from the film, from Wybie and Mr. Bobinsky to Miss Spink and Miss Forcible. Coraline: Beware the Other Mother is perfect for any fans of the haunting franchise. The game is available now — just remember, the Beldam loves a good game, but she loves the souls of children even more.
