I introduced my son to his first board game this week; nostagic, classic, and a great first board game for kids: Hasbro’s Candy Land Board Game.
When I opened the box, memories of the game came flooding back, from the cards, the player pieces, and the pictures. It has undergone a makeover (there is a princess that looks very similar to Elsa from Frozen), but overall it is the same fun game that I knew as a kid.
My son was excited from the start. He loved pulling cards while I loved the reinforcement of colors. He also loved moving his character through the lollipop fields, while I loved him learning about taking turns. He was excited to get to the Castle and I was happy to see him having so much fun.
There are a lot of fun board games for preschool aged kids. I love a lot of them, but there is a reason this one has withstood the test of time; throughout decades and generations. It is colorful, simple, and easy to play. It is not tied to any current pop culture trend and is not gender specific. The basic concept of the game also makes it rewarding—and not frustrating—for the littlest of players.
There is also something special about playing a game with your children that your parents played with you. A full game circle, if you will, that is a treasured rarity.
While our playroom is filled with lots of fun games, I’m happy (and so is my son) to have the Candy Land Board Game in stock for our weekly game night!
