Kids can make sweet-scented, dessert-shaped bath bombs to add fizz and bubbles to their baths! | Source: Klutz/the Toy Insider

Kids who love baking and crafting or kids who might need a little encouragement to take their bedtime bath can enjoy the sweet experience of bubbling bath bombs they created themselves!

The new Bath Bomb Scented Bakery craft kit from Klutz gives kids ages 10 and up the chance to make sweet treat-themed crafts for their baths. Kids can whip up colorful bath bombs that look like their favorite desserts, including cupcakes, milkshakes, doughnuts, waffles, and macarons.

This DIY kit comes with the key ingredients needed to make each bath bomb: pink, yellow, and blue baking soda; a mold with six shapes; frosted berry-scented glycerin (substitute this ingredient with water to make unscented bath bombs); and citric acid. The set also includes a few pieces for decorating the bath bombs (including a mini milkshake cup), a gift box, and an easy-to-follow instruction book.

To get started “baking,” kids will need some additional materials found at home (and maybe some help from an adult). Bath bomb bakers will need measuring spoons, mixing bowls, a fork or a spoon, a refrigerator, and baking soda from the kitchen. Once all the materials are gathered, kids can take the quiz in the included book to help them decide which bath bomb they should make first. Once they’ve decided, they can follow the bath bomb’s corresponding instruction guide to make the soapy concoction in whatever color they choose. Like with any craft — or in any bakery — it can get messy! To prevent any stains on hands or clothes, and to protect manicures, crafters should wear gloves and an apron. Parents should also make sure kids protect the working surface with a tablecloth or newspaper.

Making each bath bomb will take about 15 minutes and then they will need time to dry overnight or up to 48 hours. Once that’s done, kids can pop their bath bombs treats out of the molds and plop it into the bathtub to enjoy the fizzing sounds, colors, and scent as they melt away in the water! Or, kids can put the finished product in the included gift box to share the fun with a friend.

Aside from the step-by-step instructions to make each bath bomb bakery item, the included book also has tips on how kids can mix the baking soda colors to make even more colorful bath bombs and how to make tie-dye bath bombs. There also are fun facts throughout the book that teach kids about the origin of each treat.

The Bath Bomb Scented Bakery certainly requires some patience and attention to detail, but it offers an enjoyable sensory experience (squishing the baking soda is super satisfying!). Plus, finishing a perfect bath bomb treat is sure to spark a sense of achievement. When kids finally unmold each of their bath bombs, they will see how their hard work has paid off and they can enjoy their final product in a relaxing bath! What could be sweeter?
