American Girl is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year in exciting ways, including three new books launching this summer and two more this fall.

The brand previously announced that it’s reviving the original dolls that started the craze years ago and now parents can introduce their kids to the American Girl characters through a publishing program with Random House Books for Young Readers.

The first book to launch will be Happy Birthday! (American Girl), set to publish on August 10 in a Little Golden Book format for readers ages 2-5. Happy Birthday! will feature 10 of American Girl’s historical characters — including Courtney, Melody, Molly, Nanea, Rebecca, Samantha, Addy, Kirsten, Josefina, and Felicity — to show how they celebrated their own birthdays throughout different periods of U.S. history. Kids ages 5-8 can dive into Samantha Helps a Friend (American Girl), launching on July 13, and Freedom for Addy (American Girl), launching on August 24. Those two titles will launch as leveled reader formats instead of Little Golden Books.

In addition to the summer launches, fans can also look forward to two holiday-themed books, both publishing on September 7. Molly’s Christmas Surprise (Step into Reading) will focus on original American Girl Molly, while Happy Holidays! (Little Golden Book) will touch on multiple characters and holidays, including Kaya’s 1764 Winter Spirit Dances, Rebecca’s 1914 Hanukkah, and Julie’s best friend’s 1974 Chinese New Year celebration.

The original American Girl characters represent different periods of U.S. history from 1764 to the ‘80s. Each signature doll comes packaged with a book about the character and her time period. Click here to see what else American Girl has in store for the 35th-anniversary celebrations.
