SpinMaster.SharkManiaIt’s that time of year again. Your Facebook and Twitter feeds are consumed by it, your family is getting seriously familiar with your living room, and you proceed with more caution than usual before entering any body of water (showers included)—if you still don’t know by now, it’s SHARK WEEK!

Every year Discovery Channel devotes an entire week to shark-based programming and the reception (heightened by social media) is overwhelming. Most people (I’d assume) prefer to keep their distances from sharks, so during this week people can truly get to know and admire sharks while doing so from the safety of their own homes.

A great game to play (while of course watching Shark Week on TV, or every other day) is Spin Master’s Shark Mania game for kids ages 6 and up. This game is shark-tastic fun and strays far from a traditional board game by adding in elements such as chomping sharks, pirates, gold coins, a shipwreck, and an abandoned island.

SpinMaster.SharkMania2The game is a race to safety as the mechanical shark fin comes straight for the players. Whether kids play with two or four people, the goal is to reach the island at the end of the track before your pirate pawn is knocked off the bridge—all while collecting gold coins along the way.

The first few times I played the shark was victorious as it knocked off everyone’s mover. But, we didn’t give up, and as we played faster and moved quicker and we definitely saw improvements in our game.

Although Shark Mania is technically a kid game, I think it’s fun and challenging enough for the whole family. Although there are no real sharks involved, it definitely gets the blood pumping, making it a really fun and exciting game.
