Summertime means outside play, days off, and family vacations. I also think of hot days and looking for creative ways to cool off while spending time together—which means water fun for everyone!

Water Blasters and Balloons

Some things you’re never too old to do. Playing with water blasters and water balloons is one of my favorite activities of all time. It doesn’t matter if it’s a group of kids, or adults and kids together. It’s a chance to let the water fly, laugh, and have some fun.

We like to keep our family moving, so we recently had an adult vs. kids water fight. Each group was armed with a blaster and the same number of water balloons—then the fun began. Another great idea is to surprise your kids. Leave them a bucket of water balloons and water blasters with a note telling them you’re waiting for them in the backyard and you’re armed with more blasters and balloons.

Water Games

It’s also fun to make games. You can use some sidewalk chalk and make targets for the balloons. Challenge kids to add up the points and you’re not just having fun, but also practicing those math skills. Or, take a whiffle ball bat and play baseball with water balloons for some epic splashes. Let’s not forget the classic hot potato style game where you pass a water balloon around and when the music stops whoever is holding the balloon smashes it over his or her head.

Plus, there are some great games like Zing‘s Wet Head or Hasbro‘s Egged On that can also bring the water fun into play for the whole family. It’s also important to make sure you pick up all the balloon pieces when you’re done and set some rules (e.g don’t throw at the face).

What makes these games so much fun is knowing that you’re going to get wet and cool down. It’s a chance to just play and let loose a little and not worry about breaking anything, because that’s the point of the games.
