Bedtime can be a scary time for young children, due to those proverbial monsters under the bed. Luckily, there’s Lyla Tov Monsters, which soothe and reassure little ones, thanks to their bright colors and unique designs. There’s multiple versions of the plush doll available for boys and girls, and each one has a big, soft body; long, floppy appendages; and more. They also have stitched-on clothing, facial features, and other fine details that offer different tactile sensations: The dolls’ bodies themselves, for example, are kind of fuzzy, while their eyes are round and smooth.
Sitting on a shelf or a child’s bed, Lyla Tov Monsters are friendly and cheerful-looking. Meanwhile, during play there’s always lots going on, thanks to the aforementioned floppy arms, legs, and tail, which are made for bouncing around in mid-air. Thick hair and other connected parts also provide for kinetic movement, and the stretched out—and stretchable—limbs are useful for when bedtime inevitably rolls around, since children can then easily find their Lyla Tov Monster in the dark and pull it towards them. Once they’ve got their arms around their favorite monster, they can give them the tightest of squeezes, and the plush body bounces right back.
Lyla Tov Monsters were created by Erin Black, based on an idea from her three-year-old daughter, Lyla. A portion of all sales goes to a charity of her choice, which is yet another reason to say hello to these dolls; “Lyla Tov” (which literally translates to, “Good night,” in Hebrew) to children as they go off to bed with them at night; and farewell to those less friendly monsters under their beds.
