Lego Star Wars Rebeles the GhostWith Lego’s Star Wars The Ghost play set, kids can blast, zoom, and soar as they battle the Empire with the intergalactic ship from the Star Wars: Rebels animated TV series. The 929-piece building set comes fully loaded with interactive features like a rotating turret and spring-loaded shooters.

If putting together such an elaborate building set seems like a daunting task, that’s because it is. Unlike my prior experience with Lego blocks, which includes one-room houses and cars that Fred Flintstone would find underwhelming, this kit is nothing short of an hours-long project. But the instructions are clear and easy to understand, so while it certainly isn’t a 15 minute project, it’s not an especially difficult one either.

Once it is put together, kids will find that it provides the basis for even more hours of play.

The set also includes four brand-new Rebel minifigures based on the show: Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Zeb Orrelios, and a Stormtrooper, complete with their own light sabers, laser shooters, and other intergalactic defense weapons. Kids can store spare weapons and a Holocron in the ship’s cargo container, load the gang into one of two cockpits or the 360-degree rotating gun turret, and blast into hyperspace with the help of two rocket boosters. Other features of the ship include detachable escape pods, spring loaded missile shooters, and a docking area for the Phantom starship.

The interactive ship lets kids bring the fight against the Empire to life. But because of the size of the pieces (and the number of them), this is definitely a toy for bigger kids (9+) and collectors.

Lego Star Wars The Ghost from The Lego Group was selected as a Hot 20 toy for the holiday season in the Toy Insider’s 2014 Holiday Gift Guide, featured in the November issue of Woman’s Day magazine. Check it out here!
