Sharing is Caring

Recess Music, a company dedicated to helping kids value a world that is wise, fair, and generous-hearted, will release Share!, the fourth in its Best Food Forward series of CDs, on March 26 from Big Round Records.

The album, for kids ages 3 to 11, celebrates sharing and generosity as key actions for bringing harmony and understanding into classrooms, neighborhoods, and homes. Share! features 15 tracks that showcase contributions from kids’ musicians including Renee & Jeremy, Dog on Fleas, Ben Rudnick & Friends, Charity and the JAMband, and Noel Paul Stookey (“Paul” of folk-singing trio Peter, Paul and Mary). Other titles in the Best Foot Forward series include Someone Else’s Shoes, Big Bully, and U R Some 1.

Miss Nina’s New Grooves

Brooklyn-based “Miss Nina” (Nina Stone) released her second kids’ CD Sha Doo Be Doop, by Little Monster Records, on April 16. Stone continues her commitment to creating music that is conceived with the young child in mind with this album for children ages 1 to 6.

On Sha Doo Be Doop, kids can groove to “The Brown Bear Rap,” basked on Bill Martin and Eric Carle’s children’s book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? or gnash their teeth and show their claws to “Wild Things,” an interactive ode to Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. “Bye-Bye, Everybody” offers kid-friendly instruction on how to say goodbye in nine different languages.

It’s Not Fair to Me!

It’s Not Fair to Me from Round River Records is the collaboration between two award-winning children’s music veterans. Bill Harley and Keith Munslow bring years of performing and friendship to a wacky collection of songs that range from the spooky “Stinkeye” to the blues send-up “Give Me Back My Hat.”

Other songs on the album, about misbehaving dogs, whining little brothers, and ugly sweaters, showcase a wide range of styles and topics that find Harley and Munslow at their songwriting and performing best.

The album will be available everywhere on February 12. The duo will celebrate the release with concerts early this year.

Laughing and Learning with Mr. Steve

Award-winning kids’ musician SteveSongs, known as PBS Kids’ “Mr. Steve,” will release his eighth CD Orangutan Van on January 29.

Orangutan Van contains SteveSongs tradition of great melodies, catchy lyrics, and playful humor that allow kids to be entertained and educated at the same time. A highlight of this album is “All In This Together (MLK),” with lyrics inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and music driven by a stellar band. Other songs include “Recess Rocks,” “Superhero You,” and “Soaring with Reading,” which features Glen “Big Baby” Davis of the Boston Celtics/Orlando Magic and motivates listeners to go anywhere they want to go through the magic of reading.

Although Orangutan Van does not officially release until the end of January, fans can purchase the CD for delivery now through the store on SteveSongs website.
